The Dream (PART 1)

By Taiwo Odumala

She grabbed a hold of the boy and ran alongside Sesan to safety. He was the last of them to be rescued. The other boys had all been rescued, sorted and put in different taxi cabs so that they can be taken from the warehouse to Sasha where their parents and some policemen are waiting. She took the boy and ran out just as the last taxi zoomed off.

That was when they saw the car. Black! But she did not pay attention to the plate number. She only wanted to make sure the boy was safe, that the kidnappers do not find them when they got arrived back at the warehouse. She had been hired as a nanny by one Mr. Audu to take care of his children, not knowing he was part of a kidnapping ring that abducts young boys and nurture them into hardened criminals and hired killers. With the boy in her arms, she dived into the car with Sesan right on her heels.
In the car, the man demanded the boy, telling Sesan it was their agreement. Apparently, he had paid Sesan for one of the boys. But as Sesan had put all the boys in cabs to Sasha, the little boy was the only one left. She looked at Sesan as if he had just grown another head; with surprise and disgust.

She held on tightly to the boy. She would not, could not let him go after all he had been through in the past few days. He is only a boy, no more than 3years old, but he had been made to do what he could never have done even at 18years.

He was breathing hard in her arms and his eyes were unfocused. On the outside, he looked like he was in a trance but she knew he was not.
He was only still reeling from the drugs injected into his system. She thought of his parents and how they would be one of the numerous parents expecting their boy in Sasha. Unfortunately for them, this one will not be going home. And now, she won't be going home as well.
She simply couldn’t leave without him!

She looked at him again, knowing in her heart that she would keep this one. She would keep him safe.
Her voice came up then, strong. “No”, she said. The man in the car did not need to ask what she meant, he understood. The man told Sesan to get out of his car. Sesan opened his mouth as if to explain the situation but the man's countenance showed he wasn’t ready to listen.

He told Sesan again, this time, firmly, to get out of his car. Sesan got down and the driver sped off with the lady and the boy still in the car; with the lady still clutching the boy to her breast. He was her little one now.
He must be safe....................
