The
movie adaptation of Chimamanda Adichie’s sophomore novel, ‘Half of a yellow sun’,
might just turn out to be the most expensive Nollywood movie yet.
The
movie, which was screened privately on Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at the Ozone
cinemas, Yaba, reportedly cost an enormous $10 million excluding some other
production costs.
According
to the executive producer, Yewande Sadiku, getting financial backing for the
movie was quite daunting and challenging as they were repeatedly turned down by
several investors.
She
said, ‘I thought it would be very easy to raise $12million to shoot the movie,
but I was wrong. After I was turned down by some investors, I became very sad
for Nollywood. But the required funds were finally realized. The movie cost us
about $10million dollars to shoot and this is beside other fees.
The flick, which will be showing in Cinemas across Lagos from April, features Chiwetel Ejiofor, Thandie Newton, OC Ukeje, Onyeka Onwenu, and Genevieve Nnaji
